MacWilliam Consulting was founded in 1997 and is led by two senior consultants, Irene MacWilliam
and Dr. Ian Barrett.
Irene MacWilliam BA, M.Sc. is a member of the CIPD and an NCVO Approved Consultant.
She became an independent consultant in 1997 after 20 years experience in Organisational and Management
Development and operational roles in national NGOs, Supported Housing, the voluntary sector and in higher education.
Her role as Trustee for a national Health Charity and on other Boards brought challenges of
balancing commercial and ethical interests.
Committed to lifelong learning she gained a Masters degree in Change Agent
Skills and Strategies from Surrey University in 2005 which added advanced
theoretical understanding of individual, group and organisational change processes
to her practical experience. She is currently furthering her research into the
relationship between hidden conflict and change in organisations.
A strong lateral and strategic thinker, skillful facilitator and good communicator,
Irene brings warmth, compassion and commitment to her work. After raising a family in
London and Hampshire she recently returned from a year in Germany where she further
developed her professional work and writing,
set up an international book group, and
discovered a passion for modern art, jazz, and European history.
She is keen to develop further professional and personal connections
with Berlin and other
parts of Europe.
Ian Barrett B.Sc. M.Sc. D.Phil. is a creative strategist,
facilitator, trainer and project manager. He
has been Chief Executive
of two charities and has wide experience of consultancy roles in the public,
